La deconstrucción del cuento de hadas: intertextualidad y feminismo en The Cloud de John Fowles

Abstract

La reescritura que el postmodernismo hace del cuento de hadas se ha centrado principalmente en su función social y proporciona, además, una perspectiva ideológica al señalar cómo su estructura refuerza los valores patriarcales. Este trabajo se centra sobre el modo en que la revisión del cuento de hadas en «The Cloud» subvierte y deconstruye la estructura y los elementos del género tradicional con la intención de liberar la identidad femenina de los estereotipos impuestos. Se analizará especialmente el modo en que Catherine, la narradora, reescribe las narrativas patriarcales, el modo en que se opone a esas narrativas y cómo esa resistencia a nivel narrativo le permite crear nuevas estructuras que rijan su vida.

Postmodernist rewritings of the fairy tale have focused on the social function of the genre and provided an ideological perspective of its canonical cultural patterns by pointing at the way in which they reinforce patriarchal values. This paper focuses on how the revision of the fairy tale in «The Cloud» subverts and deconstructs the traditional plot and patterns of the genre in order to free female cultural identity from stereotyped role models and reconstruct a new sense of identity. I am interested in exploring how Catherine rewrites the narratives of patriarchy, how she resists the constrictions imposed by such narratives and how such fictional resistance interacts with her attempts of achieving freedom by inventing new structures.
