Uso del sistema sanitario público por parte de los turistas en Canarias

Abstract

The study of the public healthcare utilisation by tourists constitutes a social need that must be studied, particularly given the Canary Island´s touristic nature. This essay aims to analyse the island perspectives of two variables. The propensity of use of healthcare services within the National Health System and the average expenditure per tourist. Using data supplied by the SCS and ISTAC we will build the different variables, which are the object of this study and will analyse them through statistical methods from unidimensional distributions. Differences between the utilisation of public healthcare have been identified. This finding contributes to the interest of a more detailed study of these differences (as well as the determining factors of the usage of healthcare services by tourists) for a better distribution of the resources by the healthcare management of the 7 health areas in order to better respond to their financial requirements.

El estudio de la utilización de la sanidad pública por parte de los turistas constituye una necesidad social objeto de estudio, dado el perfil turístico de las Islas Canarias. En este trabajo se analiza la perspectiva insular de dos variables: la propensión de uso de los servicios sanitarios del Sistema Nacional de Salud y el gasto medio por factura por parte de los turistas. Con datos proporcionados por el SCS y obtenidos del ISTAC construiremos las variables objeto de estudio y las analizaremos mediante recursos estadísticos de distribuciones unidimensionales. Detectamos diferencias entre islas en la utilización del Sistema Nacional de Salud. Este hallazgo puede contribuir a estudiar con mayor detalle dichas diferencias (así como los determinantes de la utilización de servicios sanitarios por los turistas) para una mejor distribución de recursos por gerencias sanitarias de las 7 áreas de salud que responda mejora a sus necesidades reales de financiación.
