2019Resumen
Nowadays, human beings continually face stressful situations that challenge their resources
and affect their well-being. In these circumstances, people begin a process of coping as a
response mechanism, in order to cope with the demands of the situation. However, the stress
produced affects the positive psychological functioning of the individual, that is, their
psychological well-being.
The purpose of this study is to verify the existence of relationship between coping strategies
employed to a stressful situation and psychological well-being of people. For this, we carry out
a study with correlational and cross-sectional design, in which a sample of 50 people between
19 and 68 years old participated. The results indicate that there is indeed a relationship between
coping strategies and psychological well-being. Specifically, Social Support and Express
Emotions strategies show positive relationships with psychological well-being, while Wishful
Thinking and Self Criticism strategies show negative relationships. In addition, the analyses
show that coping strategies have predictive power over psychological well-being, particularly
for Self-Acceptance and Environmental Mastery dimensions.
In conclusion, this research shows that there is a relationship between the strategies used to
cope with a stressful situation and the psychological well-being that the person has. As well, it
demonstrates that the set of strategies employed predicts the level of psychological well-being
that the individual possesses.
