dc.description.abstract | Plants and insects have coexisted and co-evolved for millions of years. This has led to the development of defense-interaction systems in plants that are capable of producing a wide variety of metabolites to inhibit or attract insects. Many of these metabolites are essential oils, volatile organic compounds that function as insect attractants or repellents. In the present work, the essential oils of Artemisia thuscula Cav. and Ruta chalepensis L. have been extracted with the aim of applying them in combination with pheromones. This constitutes a sustainable alternative to the use of conventional pesticides in integrated pest management. For this purpose, optimization of the extraction of essential oils was carried out. In addition, the in vitro antifeedant activity of both essential oils was evaluated and the chemical composition of the essential oil of Artemisia thuscula Cav. was analyzed. The final objective of the work is to evaluate the insecticidal activity of the oil of A. thuscula Cav. in the field through the push and pull strategy designed to control the pest Tecia solanivora in the Solanum tuberosum crop, research that will be carried out in collaboration with the company Ecobertura. | en |
