dc.description.abstract | This paper is dedicated to the study of linear multistep methods by following the line presented by Ernst Hairer and coauthors in his classical books ”Solving ordinary differential equations” non-stiff and stiff problems, edited by Springer. The textbooks have been widely quoted and constitute a cornerstone in the numerical analysis community. Our work will start with some classical multistep methods in the historical order they were developed by Adams Bashforth, Adams Moulton, Nystrom, etc. We will continue in the following chapters with general multistep methods focusing on the study of order, stability and convergence properties. Important results will be discussed and demonstrated, as well as two of the theorems established throughout the 20th century by the great mathematician Germund Dahlquist, which play a crucial role in the study of stability and convergence of linear multistep methods. | en |
