AND.
INTRODUCTION: It is known the value of communication for the human being and the
stress for the patient and his environment to face the total loss of hearing capacity. The
document is presented as a means of collecting information to determine the appropriate
diagnostic and therapeutic management of the adult with hearing loss, specifically of the
presbycusis because it is a recurrent pathology in otolaryngeal consultation. In the public
hospital environment there is currently no figure of the hearing prosthetic and it is Nursing who
assumes the realization of the audiological studies.
OBJECTIVES: To identify the most commonly used diagnostic variants for the
management of the adult hypochondriac. Determine the treatment and diagnostic tests of
choice in the patient with presbycusis.
METHODOLOGY: Narrative review. The bibliographic search has been conducted in
the databases Enferteca, Scopus, Dialnet, Latin American Repositories Network and
StuDocu. Inclusion criteria, exclusion and search limits have been used. They were made
using free language combining the selected terms with the boolean operator AND.
RESULTS: 30 articles were selected. The collection of information is organized
according to achieving the objectives set. The main diagnostic resources for determining adult
hearing loss are physical examination, otoscopy, whisper test, acumetria, evoked potentials,
audiometry, and supraliminary tests. The diagnosis of presbycusis is based on a physical
examination, a whisper test, otoscopy and audiometry, and then depends on the complexity
of the diagnosis. The fundamental treatment of the adult with presbycusis is the use of hearing
aids.
CONCLUSIONS: It has been determined which are the most used diagnostic tests in
Otorrhine consultation for the diagnosis of presbycusis. In addition, the use of hearing aids is
considered as the first therapeutic alternative. We recommend the implementation of a
diagnostic guide - therapeutic in public health institutions to improve nursing training for the
management of adults with hearing loss.
