Objetives: The main objective is to know an to deepen of the adverse events related to the patient's position
during surgery, the associated risk factors and the role of the nurse in preventing them.
Methodos and design: A review of the literature was carried out using different databases (Cochrane library,
PubMed, ScienceDirect, Elsevier, SciELO and Virtual Health Library) and several studies were found that
show how to prevent injuries associated with poor positioning of the patient in the operating room.
Results: A total of 238 articles were found, of which only 18 were valid. After performing CASPe, the number
of articles was reduced to 15, which meet the objective proposed in this review.
Discussion: The most frequent injuries caused by poor positioning of the patient on the surgical table are:
pressure ulcers, nerve injuries, venous thromboembolism and accident falls. In the literature reviewed,
different preventive measures have been found to avoid the occurrence of these injuries, including the role of
the nurse.
Conclusions: Protect the areas where the greatest pressure is exerted to avoid pressure injuries and nerve
injuries. Use scales to assess the risk of injury development. Know and treat the risk factors associated with
the occurrence of these adverse events.
