Educación artística desde el enfoque feminista: The Snack Club. Interpretando The Dinner Party, de Judy Chicago

Abstract

Este trabajo de fin de máster tiene el objetivo de estudiar la educación artística con perspectiva de género para poder elaborar un proyecto colaborativo en un aula, con una metodología distinta a la habitual y así comprender la educación artística desde un ángulo feminista, generando inquietudes que ayuden a mejorar nuestra sociedad. Para ello, se va a estudiar principalmente la obra “The Dinner Party” y todo lo que derivó de esta instalación, realizada por Judy Chicago, pionera del arte feminista en Estados Unidos y los proyectos educativos que surgieron a partir de la misma, como “The Supper Club”. Se tomará dicha instalación como referente de arte colaborativo entre mujeres y como obra educativa. Además, se estudiará el Feminist Art Program (a partir de ahora FAP o programa de arte feminista) desarrollado por dicha artista y docente. Citando a Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie en su conferencia en TEDxEuston, posteriormente convertido en libro, “la persona más probable para liderar no es la persona más fuerte físicamente, es la persona más creativa, la persona más inteligente, la persona más innovadora, y no hay hormonas para estos atributos. Un hombre es tan inteligente como una mujer, a ser creativos, ser innovadores. Hemos evolucionado, pero me parece que no han evolucionado nuestras ideas de género.” (2015, p.24). Aquí es donde la educación artística con perspectiva de género entra en acción. La finalidad de este trabajo es estudiar y poner en el foco de atención a mujeres artistas en Canarias. Conocer y recuperar obras de artistas que desconocemos es estructurar un futuro igualitario, dando importancia a la construcción de las personas. Además, teniendo en cuenta que la práctica será crear una obra colaborativa, ayudará a compartir conocimientos e intereses entre alumnas, poniéndonos a todas en un mismo nivel, en igualdad y sin jerarquías, utilizando diferentes técnicas plásticas e incluyendo en ellas las artes consideradas menores. This master’s thesis aims to study art education with a gender perspective in order to develop a collaborative project in a classroom, with a methodology different from the usual one, and thus understand art education from a feminist angle, generating concerns that help to improve our society. For this, the work “The Dinner Party” and everything that derived from this installation, made by Judy Chicago, a pioneer of feminist art in the United States, and the educational projects that arose from it, such as “ The Supper Club”. This installation will be taken as a benchmark for collaborative art between women and as an educational work. In addition, the Feminist Art Program (hereinafter FAP or feminist art program) developed by said artist and teacher will be studied. Quoting Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her TEDxEuston talk, later turned into a book, “The person most likely to lead is not the physically strongest person, it is the most creative person, the most intelligent person, the most innovative person, and there is no hormones for these attributes. A man is as smart as a woman, to be creative, to be innovative. We have evolved, but it seems to me that our ideas of gender have not evolved.” (2015, p.24). This is where arts education with a gender perspective comes into action. The purpose of this work is to study and focus attention on women artists in the Canary Islands. Knowing and recovering works by unknown artists is structuring an egalitarian future, giving importance to the construction of people. In addition, taking into account that the practice will be to create a collaborative work, it will help to share knowledge and interests among students, putting us all on the same level, on an equal footing and without hierarchies, using different plastic techniques and including the arts considered minor.
