Más allá de la jaula identitaria. La obra de Fernando Estévez en los límites

Abstract

Este ensayo es una revisión de notas tomadas para un homenaje temprano a la figura del antropólogo canario Fernando Estévez, escrito entre 2016 y 2017. Ya que ha pasado más de un lustro desde su fallecimiento, creemos que es un buen momento para revisar lo que se ha agrupado de su obra aquí, no solo por el carácter bibliográfico y documental del mismo, sino por las propuestas abiertas en torno al «conector» de este trabajo de revisión: indagar en el concepto de identidad, especialmente en una Canarias marcada por los procesos de globali- zación y la presencia de migrantes representada negativamente en las narrativas identitarias.

This essay is a review of notes taken for an early tribute to the figure of the Canarian anthropologist Fernando Estévez, written between 2016 and 2017. As more than five years have gone by since he passed away, we believe it is a good time to review what has been grouped together of his work here, not only because of its bibliographical and documentary nature, but also because of the open proposals around the “connector” of this revision work: to investigate the concept of identity, especially in the Canary Islands, a territory marked by the processes of globalization associated with tourism, the patrimonialization of culture and the presence of migrants negatively represented in identity narratives.
