This work tries to approximate how The Arbitration on Imports and Deliveries of Goods (AIEM)
protects the industry of the Canary Islands through the incomes. The industrial production of the
Canary Islands is characterized by its scarcity and the industrializable raw materials in the islands
belong mainly to the primary sector, so industry that exists depends on the import. That is why
the islands enjoy a special tariff regime, which includes the AIEM, whose main purpose is to
protect domestic production and encourage and promote industrial activities so that in the future
they can replace imported products.
Our work will focus on analyzing the tariff items, grouping them in industrial sectors, and, studying
the percentage that represents each sector in the total industry, check whether the incomes
corresponds to the weight of this sector.
