2021Abstract
Digital transformation is one of the current challenges that many industries are facing, especially
the tourism industries. The way in which tourists are informed and organize their trips has been
changing due to the introduction of new trends (Big Data, Cloud, E-mobile, Internet of things and social
networks), facilitated by the penetration of technological devices (smartphones, tablets, wearable
bracelets, touch panels).
Among all these innovations, social networks have become the most important trend for the
tourism sector in recent years. These trends not only have opened new channels of communication,
but they have also modified the business model of these tourism companies. This interaction in
digitalization can be transformed into added value by companies in the tourism sector improving
decision-making and the traveler's experience thanks to the offer of personalized services that fit the
needs of the so-called “digital tourists.” The analysis of the current situation of digitalization in the
Canarian tourism sector is based in this project on the example of the Shopping Center Siam Mall. In
this research we have used several instruments to collect the information (such as GEPS analysis,
Benchmarking, and SWOT analysis). Apart from that, we have presented technological tips that could
increase differentiation of Siam Mall with respect to other competitive shopping centers.
