The present work consists of the planning and development of a situation
(SA) of a cooperative learning teaching model (AC) in Physical Education (PE) and the
corresponding analysis of the degree of group cohesion and learning in tasks related to
the activities in the natural environment, specifically, orientation. The SA was applied
to two groups in the 4th year of Compulsory Secondary Education, one of them being
the focus group, which will develop the SA under a traditional cooperative structure
(without a defined structure) and the other group, the experimental group, which will
will do under the defined structure of the AC model. The purpose of the research was to
find out the efficiency of both methodologies in group cohesion and student learning. 34
students participated, 20 former students and 14 male students, aged between 16 and 17
years old and belonging to a public center in the municipality of La Matanza de
Acentejo, Tenerife. To assess group cohesion, the adaptation to the group context of a
Self-Assessment Sheet, extracted from an article by Velázquez (2012), was obtained.
After finishing the SA, a "sharing" was carried out in the experimental group, with the
intention of knowing the opinion and perspective of the student regarding the teaching
model used.
The results show that the AC model generates group cohesion, although it is perceived
to be slightly less efficient than the traditional model, in which students work in small
stable groups. The group cohesion that occurred in both groups had an almost identical
process throughout the sessions. On the other hand, we studied the individual learning
of students and found that there are no significant differences between models, even the
traditional model turned out to be, with little difference, the most effective model to
make students learn. In addition, it was possible to appreciate that the traditional model
experienced a learning process of the basic fundamentals of SA faster than the one
produced with the application of a traditional model. Regarding the opinions expressed
by the experimental group, it should be noted that the model encourages help among
equals and encourages peers. In addition, it promotes communication between the
members of a group and therefore its organization is encouraged, making it more

efficient in achieving group objectives. All the students interviewed recognize that
working in a group not only facilitates the achievement of objectives, but it is also more
fun.
